How to care for your heels properly at home: 7 simple rules
Until recently, when we walked in warm winter shoes, it was possible to forget about pedicures and save time on foot care. But the sun is peeping through the clouds more and more decisively, and the weather is getting warmer every day. You will not have time to look back, and the time for sandals will come. Of course, if you decide to put them on, Footwork needs to be done now! We tell you everything about heel care at home: how to get rid of cracks and rough skin and make your feet smooth.
Why cracks appear on the heels and the skin of the feet coarsens
Before you learn how to get rid of cracked heels, you need to clarify the root cause of their appearance. After all, without getting rid of it, you will drive yourself into a vicious circle—you will constantly struggle with rough skin and cracks.
Top 7 tips for taking care of your heels at home
We have collected the most effective ways to make your heels smooth at home. But keep in mind that using just one is unlikely to help you achieve a good effect. Use several products at once to quickly put your legs in order and prepare them for the summer season.
Drink more liquid.
Let’s start with the most banal but very effective and useful advice: drink more fluids, ideally clean water. This will benefit not only your heels but also the health of the gastrointestinal tract as well as the skin in general. You yourself will notice how headaches began to annoy you less often, there were fewer rashes on your face, and the dermis became more hydrated and acquired a healthy color.
Eat foods with vitamin A
This is the same vitamin that is ideal for caring for the skin of the heels; it will make them softer and more tender from the inside. You can, of course, go to the pharmacy and buy it in capsules; they cost a penny. But for fans of a healthy lifestyle and all-natural foods, we advise you to try to eat more foods with vitamin A: beef liver, green vegetables and greens in general, eggs, cod liver, butter, plums, hard cheeses, and dried apricots.
Do softening baths
Foot baths are an insanely pleasant spa treatment that you can very easily do right at home. Pour hot water with useful ingredients into a basin (more on them below), sit side by side, and dip your legs in there. Relax for at least 15–20 minutes; you can read something interesting during this time.
Use peeling socks.
Special socks for at-home pedicures are a great way to cleanse your heels of rough skin and force it to renew itself before the season of open shoes. Such socks are impregnated with special compounds with a high content of acids, which soften the skin and make it exfoliate very quickly and actively.
Apply a keratolytic.
This is a special liquid for professional pedicures that, in just a few minutes, will remove the rough layer of skin, leaving you with smooth heels. Some tips for working with keratolytic
- Be sure to work with gloves if you do not want to “kill” the skin on your hands.
- Apply the composition for the time indicated in the instructions; the product is quite active, so it is not necessary to overdo it.
- It is convenient to moisten cotton pads with the composition, cover the heels with them, and cover them with a regular bag on top; this way the product will work quickly.
- Rub your feet very gently with a pumice stone. Keratolytics soften the skin greatly, so you can literally rub it on the wound.
- Immediately after the procedure, wash your feet thoroughly, dry them, and spread them with a fat cream. Here, the situation is the same as with peeling socks: the product will dry the skin very much, so strong nutrition is a must.
Make masks
Yes, they are made not only for the face; they are also excellent heel care at home, simple and effective. You can buy a special tool, which will consist of a complex of components, or you can make your own composition or use ordinary oil, such as olive, cocoa, macadamia, shea, or even sunflower. Put the mask on your feet, put on the bags on top, then socks, and you can go about your business. It is best to keep the masks on for at least 20–30 minutes, or you can leave them on all night and wash them off only in the morning.
Don’t forget the cream.
This is elementary, but still, we remind you: use a moisturizer twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, so that the heels are always tender. Now you know how to properly care for your heels so that they are always soft and smooth. Follow our advice, and in the summer you will shine without hesitation in open shoes.
