Find your natural skin care routine

Skin care products can be a major source of toxins for many people. Most are full of chemicals and artificial ingredients that can have a temporary positive effect on your skin but negatively affect it in the long run.

These artificial ingredients can also be absorbed by the skin and accumulate in the body.

The good news is that there are natural, simple, and inexpensive options that actually work better than most commercial products without all the harmful ingredients.

In general, natural oil cleansing methods are a suitable solution for all skin types, although different skin types have different oil combinations (see below). You can make your own oil cleansing blends, but I highly recommend this handmade blend that smells divine and works really well for oil cleansing.

The best combination of natural skin care options depends on your skin type.

oily skin

Switching to a gentle, natural skin care option will go a long way in getting rid of excess oil build-up, but in the meantime, there are natural ingredients that can help prevent breakouts and get rid of excess oil.

Exfoliating: Create a natural scrub that helps remove impurities without removing excess oil by evenly mixing sea salt with oils (olives, almonds, etc.). To Cleanse: Oil cleansing is a cleansing method suitable for all skin types. In general, people with oily skin need more castor oil compared to other oils. In general, a mixture of half and half castor oil and olive oil, or a mixture of 2/3 castor oil and 1/3 olive oil, seems to work best.

Because oily skin is conditioned, it requires less moisture, and natural oils from oil cleansing are often sufficient. If not, a very light layer of coconut oil will work, or for those who are too oily, a diluted apple cider vinegar toner will remove the oil. A tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water stored in the refrigerator works well.

To reduce pore size, oily skin can make pores more visible. Minimize pore size with these natural methods.

Natural makeup options can also help reduce excess oil.

Normal/combination skin

I’ve always liked the term. Because, really, what is “normal” skin?

People with skin that isn’t usually oily or dry and that responds well to different types of products and makeup generally adapt very quickly to natural skin care options. People with this type of skin usually have a variety of options available to them and can still achieve great results.

My skin was more oily as a child, and as I switched to natural skin care options, it became more “normal,” so here are the options I use.

Exfoliating: Homemade sugar scrub is a great natural exfoliant. Here’s my favorite recipe.

To Cleanse: Oil cleansing is a good option for all skin types, but it’s a good balance for normal or combination skin. In general, mixing about 1/4 cup of castor oil with 3/4 cup of another oil (olive, almond, etc.) works well, but you can adjust it to suit your individual skin. Here is a full tutorial on oil cleansing.

People with normal skin tend to do well with most moisturizing options and often don’t need as much of a moisturizer. When I need it, my favorite options are natural lotion bars or very small homemade lotions. Even a small amount of coconut oil or shea butter is effective for these skin types.

Natural makeup options generally work great for this type of skin as well.

dry skin

People with dry or aging skin often benefit from natural skin care options. Often times, using natural oils on your skin will help your skin balance oil production and stop drying out in the first place.

Although you often have skin types that don’t require exfoliation, a gentle homemade sugar scrub or cleansing grain can be a way to gently exfoliate with added natural oils. Here are some of my favorite recipes.

To cleanse: Castor oil is more of a drying oil in oil cleansing and usually only requires small amounts (about 1 teaspoon of castor oil for 1/4 cup of another oil like olive or almond).

To moisturize: homemade lotion bars, super moisturizing homemade lotions, and whipped body butters are excellent moisturizing options for dry skin types. Plain organic shea butter can also be a simple and effective option.

As mentioned in the previous article, there are a few extras that can help slow skin aging.

Natural anti-aging

Numerous anti-aging products are available, but your best bet is to take them internally. Any collagen product that tightens the skin doesn’t take into account that collagen must be produced internally and is too large to be absorbed through the skin.

To stimulate natural collagen production, we suggest using coconut oil as a moisturizer and consuming gelatin, fermented cod liver oil/butter blend, and vitamin C to support natural collagen production internally.

facial

Sometimes it’s not just what you put on your skin, but what you do to it! Regular facial massage using these techniques can stimulate blood circulation to keep the skin rosy, drain lymph fluid, reduce swelling, and stimulate collagen production.

supplements for skin care.

I’m pretty sure what you put on your body is as important, if not more important, than what you wear when it comes to skin health. I have had terrible acne, and since changing my diet and supplements, it has not come out at all, and the scars from the past have healed. The supplements that seem to have had the greatest impact on my skin’s health are:

  • Fermented cod liver oil is high in vitamins A, D, and K, as well as omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants that are beneficial to the skin.
  • Gelatin is a precursor to collagen and makes hair, skin, and nails noticeably stronger and smoother (also great for cellulite).
  • Magnesium is an anti-inflammatory and is lacking in many people’s diets. Topical magnesium oil appears to be the most effective for skin health.
