How to straighten hair without heat

We often use a variety of hair styling tools such as irons, straighteners, and hair dryers to make our hair dry, brittle, and brittle. But how many people know that it is possible to straighten hair without applying heat? Heat is a major cause of hair damage, so it’s safe to opt for an alternative method of straightening your hair. It may sound impossible, but it is not. Find out how to straighten your hair without heat.

Studies have shown that using a hair dryer can make your hair dry, rough, and even reduce hair pigmentation (1). Styling tools damage hair integrity, making hair weak and brittle.

Here are some tips to help you create a straight hairstyle. In fact, these tips can most likely work for wavy hair. If you have curly or wavy hair, these tips may not work well for you, but you can try a combination of these tips to achieve the desired result.

  1. Use of straightening and smoothing products: Straightening and smoothing products contain ingredients such as keratin that soften hair. These products also control frizz and improve hair care.
  1. Using a Jumbo Roller: This is a technique for type 4 hair. Wash your hair overnight with a plastic jumbo roller for a straight, smooth hairstyle. It straightens and smooths type 4 hair and styles it with smooth jumbo curls.
  1. Silicone Products: Silicone is used in many hair care products to soften hair. Silicone used in hair care products such as dimethicone and polysiloxane seals the hair cuticle, preventing external cuticle friction (2). This makes the hair soft and smooth. Silicone compounds also provide heat resistance.
  1. Hair Wrap: Hair wrapping is another technique for straightening type 4 hair that requires an elastic band, long bobby pins, and a scarf to hold the curled hair in place. Leave it overnight and your hair will be straight in the morning. This will protect your hair and prevent frizz.
  1. Keep your hair cool: modern blow dryers come in cool settings while regular hair dryers come in lower settings. If your dryer has a cool setting, choose that option. While your hair is dry, comb your hair with a round or flat paddle brush. If the dryer setting is low, keep it 15 cm away from your hair when it dries. Use a straightening serum before starting to dry.
  1. Overnight Straightening: This is another method for type 4 hair that needs a braid. Wash your hair and let it dry naturally until damp. Then, part your hair in the middle and style it with two pigtails. Secure the head using different braids 3 inches apart. Leave this hairstyle on overnight.
  1. Hot oil treatment: Heat a tablespoon of coconut oil and mix it with a tablespoon of castor oil. Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you can increase the amount you need. Apply a generous amount of oil to your hair and leave it on for 45 minutes before washing it off. You can also massage your scalp while applying the oil to improve blood circulation and stimulate hair growth. Studies have shown that coconut oil can help control frizz (3).
  1. Deep Conditioning Your Hair: Deep conditioning your hair to relax your strands is a must. This will make it easier to untangle and straighten your tresses. Choose a deep conditioning mask that contains moisturizing ingredients like aloe vera, hydrolyzed protein, and coconut oil. You can also use cosmetic hair conditioners like regular and leave-in conditioners. It is formulated to reduce frizz, tangle hair, increase softness, and reduce friction (4).
  1. Use Corrective Masks: Straight hair masks contain ingredients such as biotin, collagen, and keratin that strengthen and improve hair elasticity. It can keep your hair straight for much longer. This straight hair mask also softens the hair and prevents frizz.
  1. Cold Rinsing: Rinsing your hair with cold water can seal and straighten your cuticles. This will work if you use a straightening shampoo or conditioner.
  1. After washing your hair, pat it dry with a soft, absorbent cotton towel. Then allow a little air drying. Once the hair is 75% dry, comb the sections gently to straighten them. Continue combing your hair until it is completely dry. This is a time-consuming process, but it will make your hair smooth, straight and smooth.
  1. Curly hair control: Wavy curly hair, sometimes even straight hair. Static electricity creates friction between the hair strands, leaving the outer cuticle surface open, making the hair brittle. Use a frizz control serum to smooth your hair without using heat. You can also try some natural remedies to get rid of frizz.
  1. Humidity should be avoided: Humidity can make your hair frizzy and difficult to manage.Use a humidity control product that protects against weather conditions and keeps your hair silky smooth.
  1. Natural Ingredients: There are many natural hair masks, packs, and oils that can help smooth and straighten hair without the need for thermal styling tools. Ingredients like coconut oil, honey, and lemon juice straighten hair and improve health. Check out some DIY natural remedies below.

9 non-heating ways to dry your hair

There’s no denying that using a curling iron can be absolutely painful at times. But did you know that you don’t need an iron or other heat styling tools to dry your hair? If you don’t like sweat, arm pain, or hair damage, you’ll be happy to know that there are a few other ways you can add curl to your hair. We’ve compiled a list of nine methods to give you curls of different styles, with tautness and volume.

How to dry hair without heat?

Women have been drying their hair without heat for centuries! Most of these methods involve going to bed with slightly damp hair and waking up with perfectly dried hair. Some work to accentuate the natural waves of the hair. Go through the list and find the one that best suits the look and style you want.

1. Scrunching

Scrunches enhance the natural curls of your hair, making them wavy or curly depending on your natural hair texture. A curling iron is one of the quickest and easiest ways to achieve messy curls.

You will need

  • Curl strengthening products (mousse/gel)
  • Volumizing Shampoo
  • Towel
  • Other products for hair gel/hold

Way

  1. Wash and condition your hair with a volumizing shampoo.
  2. Apply conditioner only to the ends of your hair and it will not make your hair heavy. Untangle while doing this.
  3. Rinse your hair thoroughly to remove any residue.
  4. Squeeze the water out with a towel. Avoid rubbing your hair with a towel, as it can break and frizz. Instead, gently wring out the excess water.
  5. While your hair is still damp, pump in a golf ball-sized mousse or pea-sized gel.
  6. Bend forward and start combing your hair with the product. Rinse your hair in the same motion you used to crumple the paper.
  7. Avoid putting the product near the roots, as it can make your hair look greasy. Continue whisking upwards and drying your hair.

2. Pin curling

This classic style will never go out of style, and it’s also a super easy way to dry your hair without heat. To get up in the morning with nice curls, all you need to do is set your hair up before going to bed.

You will need

  • Towel
  • wide comb
  • hair gel
  • hairpin
  • cotton scarf
  • hair gel
  • hair spray

Way

  1. Wash and then condition your hair with a good volumizing shampoo. It’s a good idea to untangle your hair with a wide comb while conditioning.
  2. Dry your hair with a towel but do not rub your hair with the towel. Gently squeeze the excess water out of your hair.
  3. Apply hair gel or other products that provide fixation.
  4. Cut off the crown of the head. Fasten in a bun. We will work on it last in this section.
  5. Take a 1-inch section from the side of your hair and wrap the end with your index finger to create a loop. Hold it in place with your thumb and index finger.
  6. Start rolling the section upwards until it fits snugly against the roots. Make sure you roll your hair up and away from your face.
  7. Place the rolled up part flat on the scalp and secure it with a hairpin. If the section is too thick, the hairpin will leave a dent in the hair.
  8. Repeat this process for the rest of the hair. After flooring, crown all hair until all hair is pinned in place.
  9. Wrap your hair with a silk scarf to hold the pins in place and go to sleep. The scarf also helps absorb moisture from the hair.
  10. Wake up in the morning and loosen your curls. Remove pins only when the hair is completely dry. Do not use a hair dryer as it can frizz and unravel your hair.
  11. After removing all the pins, use your fingers to gently comb your hair to remove any fragments. Use hairspray for extra maintenance.

3. Braiding

If the perfect beach wave is what you’re looking for, braids are your best bet. This is one of the easiest ways to dry your hair.

You will need

  • 2 braids
  • Other products for hairspray/hold

Way

  1. Wash your hair and wait until it is 70% dry.
  2. Part your hair and braid it on both sides.
  3. If you want to wave only towards the ends of your hair, make two plain braids on each side of your hair.
  4. For waves that start near the roots of your hair, make two French braids or boxer braids on either side of your hair.
  5. Tighten the braids tightly to avoid frizz when braiding them.
  6. Keep the braid until your hair is completely dry. You can go to bed with the headband tied and untie it in the morning.
  7. Comb your hair with your fingers and finish with hairspray or product.

4. velcro roller

Velcro rollers are a great curling alternative, protecting hair from heat damage while adding volume and body to the hair. Choose a small size for tight curls and a large size for large volume hair with waves.

You will need

  • Velcro roller
  • Towel
  • comb
  • Holding hairspray/other products

Way

  1. Wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo or simply wet it with a spray bottle.
  2. Use a towel to squeeze excess moisture from your hair.
  3. If you have thick hair, cut it off and put it on top. If you have good hair, you can skip the cut.
  4. The roller should be rolled upwards until it fits snugly against the scalp.
  5. There is no need to use pins to hold the rollers in place. If the rollers do not stick, the area taken may be too thick.
  6. Put the roller on your hair until it is completely dry and wait for a few hours. You can use this time to put on makeup or finish chores.
  7. Unravel the curls and comb your hair with your fingers. Finish with hairspray for hold.

5. Bantu Knot

This method is my personal favorite because of its bouncy, bouncy curls. The Bantu method works well for all hair types and provides perfectly defined curls while soothing frizz.

  • Towel
  • bobby pin
  • shower cap
  • Other products for hair gel/hold
  • hair spray

  3. Twist these parts tightly to form small twisted buns.
  4. Secure with bobby pins.
  5. Repeat this until all the hair is semi-tufted.
  6. Put on a shower cap and leave it overnight.
  7. Take off your shower cap in the morning and dry your hair.
  8. Unwind each coil one by one and comb your hair with your fingers.
  9. Finish with hairspray for hold.

6. the paper towel technique

Drying your hair using a tissue is a great alternative to using a roller. This method provides taut, bouncy curls that look natural.

You will need

  • Towel
  • a roll of paper towels
  • hair spray

Way

  1. After washing your hair, wring out the excess water with a towel. Optionally, you can use a spray bottle to wet your hair.
  2. Take a paper towel and fold it until it is about 1 inch wide and about 4-5 inches long. Take a 1-2 inch section of hair and wrap the tip of the hair in the center of a paper towel.
  3. Start rolling upwards until it touches the scalp. Secure the curled hair by tying a paper towel.
  4. Repeat this with the rest of the hair in the section.
  5. Sleep with a paper towel on your head.
  6. Remove the paper towel and comb your hair with your fingers.
  7. Finish with a little hairspray for maintenance.

7. The sock method

Using socks is the perfect way to create soft waves on long hair. As a bonus, your hair will look great while you dry it.

You will need

  • hair tie
  • bobby pin
  • Amount-say
  • scissors
  • hair spray

Way

  1. Wash your hair or use a spray bottle to moisten your hair.
  2. Squeeze out the excess water and wait until your hair is about 80% dry.
  3. Pull your hair into a high ponytail and secure it with a braid.
  4. Cut the toes off the socks and roll them into a donut shape.
  5. Pull the ends of your hair through the hole in the sock.
  6. Wrap the ends of your hair in your socks and roll them up until they fit snugly against your scalp.
  7. Secure it with a few bobby pins.
  8. When your hair is completely dry, unroll the bun. You can sleep with a bun on your head or wait 5–6 hours for your hair to dry.
  9. Loosen the sock bun and braids. Comb your hair using your fingers and finish with hairspray.

8. headband technique

This is the perfect way for beach waves and big volume curls.

You will need

  • hair band
  • optional blow dryer
  • SEA SALT SPRAY

Way

  1. With your hair slightly damp, wrap the headband around your head.
  2. Cut your hair in half and start wrapping your headband around it.
  3. When you reach the end of the hair, pin it in place.
  4. Repeat this for the second section and lock it in place.
  5. You can speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer in cooler temperatures, or you can go to bed with a headband wrapped around your head.
  6. When the hair is completely dry, unfasten it and slide it down.
  7. Brush your hair with your fingers and finish by brushing your hair with sea salt spray to maintain volume.

  5. fastened with a headband.
  6. Repeat this process with another section, then go to bed.
  7. Optionally, you can wear this hairstyle for several hours until your hair is completely dry.
  8. When your hair is dry, untwist the buns and comb through your hair with your fingers.
